Jauhar is the first-born of Malka. As a cub, his parents learn he has a talent for magic, and send him off to learn to control his powers from the shamanistic mandrills. There he learns various ways to harness the elements, and to shape spells with them. Once he returns home, he spends his time learning from his father to be the "King". He rarely ever leaves the Vale, but animals come from far and wide to seek his advice or spells. Later, he mates to Shani (Vitani) and takes her back to be his Queen.

Like his namesake, Jauhar reflects the light of those around him, showing them their own worth, or lack thereof. He is precious and rare: a lion-seer. He dreams the future, sometimes the past, and uses his knowledge to help those around him.

Also, he deliberately looks similar to Kovu, since that is who Shani/Vitani was so hung up on before. She gets the better deal with Jauhar, though.
