"Born the baby of the family, Maleuni was the youngest of about six siblings born to the King and Queen of a small and close nit pride to the north. One of the oldest known prides, they were a proud people, a noble people...

Though not much could be said of how open minded they were.

Doted on by her mother, Maleuni was the apple of the Queen’s eye but Maleuni never outgrew her spots -- a source of contention within the pride.When she could, the Queen would protect her youngest girl with tooth and claw, but when the Queen could not keep an eye on her, Maleuni would fend for herself.

Even while her mother was alive, Maleuni was ostracized and sought out by her siblings and the pride cubs, an object of bullying and beatings. At an early age she had to teach herself to outrun them, to put more than enough distance between her and them, or die. No one knew why the King allowed his youngest daughter to remain alive. Some said it was out of love for his mate, others to teach her a lesson. But alive she remained, due to her own cunning and the strength she'd built. Maleuni learned how to climb, and well.

After a time, Maleuni’s world turned into one purely spent fending for herself, on her own, on the outskirts of the pride. The Queen died of a strange illness, and her last words were a plea for her mate not to kill their child. He swore it on his title, and so Maleuni survived, but barely. Already used to not spending time with her family or those that made up their pride numbers, she spent her days hunting for what she could, and watching the world pass by, mostly in silence. Her siblings would pay her visits now and then, to inform her she was still not wanted, or if any of them had left the pride, how many cubs the pride had had. Always with a healthy amount of distance between them. Maleuni often scoffed and mocked them, for their irrational fear that her spots would rub off on them if they got too near.

The final straw was when, after the death of their King and the Crowning of their new one, Maleuni climbed a high cliff in an attempt to escape her second eldest brother. This brother was special: he was the majordomo, and his King's most trusted member of the pride. As Maleuni reached a perch to look down on her brother as he made the laborious attempt to catch her, and snuff her out, she witnessed as he lost his footing. The young spotted lioness cried out in fear to him, trying to warn him, and tried to chase down after him as he rolled. She was unable to save him, and though he had been cruel to her, Maleuni wept for him, for the few times he'd shown her kindness, and for the pride's recent loss. The King's mate witnessed her weeping on the corpse, and slunk off to tell the King, who sent his guards to wait for her at her den.

They were to execute her.

What the King and his mate did not know was that five creatures still waited for them at the den. For Maleuni bore a secret, one that would have spelled her demise even were it not for her brother's death. Five cubs waited their mother's return, for their first solid meal... but what returned to them were the King's 'dogs,' and they killed them upon sight.

All but one.

The eldest of the cubs, Tulivu, had been waiting outside the den for his mother. When he saw the lionesses approaching, he'd done the first thing he could think of: he had run, and hid. Maleuni discovered him not long after the first of the guards emerged from the den, the blood of the cubs on her maw. Heart broken and filled with terror, Maleuni took up her rogue-sired cub and ran. She abandoned her name, her birth name, for the one that would both damn her and signify her new life: Chui. For no matter who her parents had been, and no matter if her body was that of a lion's, Chui was a leopard in her heart of hearts, and would raise her cub to be the very same.

She had survived by becoming a leopard...and so would he."

Chui was designed for me by RabidPanda1313. She's so spotty! 8D But no -- she's NOT a leopon. She's just a lion who never outgrew her cub spots. Just to clear that up

So not only did her brothers try and kill her...but also killed her cubs? That's downright cruel right there. At least one of them survived...but it's sad that innocents had to die as well.
