Here is Kunya, King of the Jungle! He lies about who he really is when he comes to the Pridelands, pretending he's only a Prince when he is in fact the King. His pride has been nearly eradicated by a terrible sickness, and he and a few others are all that is left. He convinces Selwisegolo to keep the true extent of his pride a secret and finally weds to Xosha. They share an intense love affair.

I wanted the 'jungle lions' to have a very markedly different appearance from the rest of the African lions, since they are a pride that is little seen or dealt with, and who have evolved and adapted to a very different set of living conditions. They are dark pelted and maned to better blend into the shadows provided by the thick foliage they live under and they have very few light areas on their bodies (again, to help blend in). These lions are not based on any real lion, just on my imagination. :3

Also, as an FYI, Afua's mother -- Zidela -- is descended from the remnants of the Jungle lionesses who come to the Pridelands with their Prince. (not anymore!) After Selwisegolo and his daughters' eras, the 'jungle lions' essentially go extinct as what is left of them intermarry into the surrounding prides, losing any pure bloodline they had.

Not sure if this is a stupid question, but if both Kunya and Xosha are monarchs, what would there pride call them. If they were in Kunya's land, would Xosha be a Queen Consort or still retain the power of a real Queen.

Queen Consort is essentially the same thing as a Queen, when the female in question is married to a King.
